Why play outdoors?

Playing volleyball on the sand/beach is fantastic cross-training for indoor volleyball. In some ways, it is more forgiving: diving and falling on the sand does not hurt. But in most ways it is more challenging than indoors: harder to move in sand, the net feels higher because you don’t jump as high, the wind blows the ball, the sun in your eyes, ball is slightly heavier... but the extra conditioning of moving in the sand is great! On the sand, you must learn to anticipate where the ball will go, since you cannot get there as quickly.
